Maya Hall: Palenque, continued.
The presentation of objects from the Temple of the Inscriptions of Palenque in the Museo is quite impressive. (See a photo of the Temple of the Inscriptions from the MAA Mathematical Tour of Mayan Mexico.) The reconstruction of Pakal's tomb is reached by descending into a below-ground portion of the museum, the only one we noticed during our visit, to imitate the descent we made in Palenque to visit the original. But these stairs were not at all hazardous!
A photo from the second floor of the Maya Hall of the stairs descending to "Pakal's tomb." (Compare a photo of the original from the MAA Mathematical Tour of Mayan Mexico.)
A photo showing the beginning of the ascent from "Pakal's tomb." Again, compare a photo of the original from the MAA Mathematical Tour of Mayan Mexico.)
Photos, above and below, of two Maya. They may be of an older Pakal (left) and a younger Pakal (right), or of Pakal and his mother, or of other folk entirely.
A photo of the descriptive text describing the busts.
